What is BUNCKER®?

BUNCKER® is an advanced packaging solution designed to ensure safety and ease of use. It can withstand a battery fire (thermal runaway) without the exterior becoming too hot, and contains harmful gases to limit further damage. Instead of traditional containers with lids, BUNCKER® uses a double-walled cover with special insulating material that provides thermal protection and binds harmful gases. Suitable for all users, BUNCKER® meets the strictest criteria for the transport and storage of lithium batteries, including UN certifications for road, air, sea and rail transport. 

What is VDL Staalservice's role? 

VDL Staalservice plays a crucial role in the BUNCKER® project. As the initiator and developer, VDL Staalservice is responsible for the design and production of the innovative packaging solution.

Results

VDL Staalservice offers a reliable solution for safe battery storage and transport with BUNCKER®. As a result, we have already won several awards, such as the iF Design Award 2024 and the Red Dot Design Award 2024. In addition, the product has obtained ADR-UN Certification LP906, meaning that it complies with European regulations for the transport of dangerous goods. These results demonstrate that BUNCKER® is a leading solution in the industry for safe battery storage and transport.
